McCaskill Meets with National SWAT Team Officers Organization

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill this week met with the president of the National Tactical Officers Association—which represents SWAT Teams across the country—to discuss ways to make to make communities safer, enhance training for officers, and increase transparency around federal law enforcement programs. “Our tactical officers do such critically important work, and offer an important perspective in the conversation on how we can keep our communities safe,” said McCaskill, a former prosecutor and senior member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. “It was a terrific opportunity to discuss what we can do as partners to make law enforcement programs more efficient and effective for Missouri and the rest of the country.” McCaskill has introduced legislation, the Protecting Communities and Police Act, which earned the group’s support, aimed at protecting both police officers and the communities those police serve, by reforming federal programs that send equipment and funding to local police departments. McCaskill’s approach, which was also endorsed by the NAACP, was largely adopted by a White House working group charged with developing steps to strengthen accountability in the aftermath of a review of the programs.
