St. Joseph Community Alliance Talks Ongoing Support for 139th with McCaskill

After securing $10 million for 139th Airlift Wing in annual defense bill, McCaskill discussed ways to continue support for the installation

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill met last week with representatives of the St. Joseph Community Alliance to discuss their work supporting the Missouri National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing and the surrounding community.

“Missouri is home to some of the nation’s top military installations—and St. Joe’s 139th is no exception,” said McCaskill, a senior member of the Armed Services Committee and the daughter of a World War II Veteran. “The thousands of Soldiers and Guardsmen who call our state home receive incredible support from their base community, and the St. Joseph Community Alliance plays a key role in ensuring that robust foundation exists. I’m proud to do all I can to continue supporting their mission.”

At the meeting, St. Joseph Mayor Bill Falkner presented McCaskill with a t-shirt honoring her long-record of support for St. Joseph, the Community Alliance, and the 139th Airlift Wing.

McCaskill is a longtime advocate for the Missouri National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing. McCaskill secured resources for Missouri in the annual National Defense Authorization Act, which included $10 million in funding for the 139th for construction of a consolidated communications facility and the flexibility to fund the C-130H full motion simulator.

Last year, McCaskill discussed the importance of the base—which she called the “top gun of airlift”—and its capabilities in war zones at an Armed Services Committee hearing with the Commander of U.S. Transportation Command.
