Missouri’s C-130s, Military Readiness on Agenda for McCaskill Meeting with Head of U.S. Transportation Command
WASHINGTON – Missouri’s C-130s and military readiness were on the agenda today when U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill met with General Paul Selva, Commander of U.S. Transportation Command (TRANSCOM).
“The ability of our military to quickly move equipment and personnel anywhere in the world is a strategic asset that we’ve got to maintain,” said McCaskill, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “Having the opportunity to talk with General Selva about the challenges he and his folks in TRANSCOM face, as well as the role our C-130s based in St. Joseph play in his mission, is important to informing my work on the Armed Services Committee.”
McCaskill is a longtime advocate of the Missouri National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing in St. Joseph. Last year, McCaskill teamed up with fellow Missouri Senator Roy Blunt at the Air National Guard Base for a roundtable discussion with 30 community leaders and leadership from the 139th Airlift Wing to talk about the C-130, the role of Missouri's military bases in national defense and the impact of possible Pentagon budget cuts. McCaskill and Blunt have also urged the Air Force to bring additional C-130 aircraft to Rosecrans, touting the base's personnel, expertise, and exceptional training facilities.
TRANSCOM is headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, across the river from St. Louis.
