Missouri Veterans of Foreign Wars Meets with McCaskill
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill met this week with Missouri members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to discuss pressing veterans issues, including the signing of the Arla Harrell Act into law, and the importance of ensuring Missouri veterans receive the quality care they deserve.

“Veterans who put their lives on the line protecting our country and the freedoms we enjoy deserve our unwavering support,” said McCaskill, the daughter of a World War II veteran and senior member of the Armed Services Committee. “I’ll always fight tooth and nail for Missouri’s veterans—ensuring they get the care and benefits they deserve.”
McCaskill has been a longtime advocate for ensuring veterans receive the healthcare and services they deserve. After waging a two-year battle on behalf of a Missouri veteran, McCaskill’s Arla Harrell Act—which was supported by the VFW and other veterans service organizations—was signed into law, finally delivering decades-overdue relief to veterans intentionally exposed to mustard gas during World War II.
McCaskill has made improving care for veterans a priority of her work in the U.S. Senate, including efforts to increase accountability and quality of veterans services. Earlier this year, McCaskill released five new regional reports as part of her “secret shopper” Veterans Customer Satisfaction Program showing veterans in Missouri have seen steady progress in the quality of their service at their local VA Medical Centers.
