Sen. Claire McCaskill announced this week her office will donate five computers to the West Plains R-7 Zizzer Learning Academy to be used for students in grades five to 12.

Zizzer Learning Academy is the West Plains school district’s alternative learning center that serves middle and high school students, housed in the former Margaret Foster School on Jackson Street.

McCaskill’s donation comes as a part of the U.S. Senate’s “Computers for Schools” program.

“It’s critical for our students to have access to technology in order to succeed in school, and in today’s economy,” the Senator said. “I’m hopeful these computers will help provide more students the opportunity to learn and master the skills necessary to be future leaders in Missouri and beyond.”

Zizzer Pride Learning Academy will receive five HP8200 Small Form Factor computers being retired from use in Senate offices. Each office that participates in “Computers for Schools” distributes 25 computers to schools in their home state.

“We are honored to be chosen for such a terrific donation from Senator McCaskill’s office,” said West Plains High School Principal Dr. Jack Randolph. “We sincerely appreciate the support as we work together to help our students reach their highest potential.”

Four other schools across Missouri will also receive computers: Hamilton Elementary in St. Louis, Malden Elementary in Malden, Manual Career and Technical Center in Kansas City and Morgan County R-1 Elementary in Stover.
