WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today announced resources are on the way to help Missouri's low-income veteran families that are homeless or facing homelessness.

"Our veterans have made tremendous sacrifices in service to our nation-and we need to ensure that when they return to the homefront, they have a home to return to," McCaskill said. "These resources offer critical support to organizations across the state that are dedicated to helping our veterans and their families."

Missouri non-profit community agencies have been awarded over two million dollars through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Services for Veteran Families Program. The VA program aims to improve low-income veteran families' housing stability by providing support to non-profit organizations that help families living in or transitioning to permanent housing.

In Missouri, The Salvation Army in Kansas City, Welcome Home, Inc. in Columbia, Catholic Charities of Kansas City - St. Joseph, Inc., and the St. Patrick Center in St. Louis have all been awarded funds through the VA.

McCaskill, the daughter of a World War II veteran, has been a champion for military veterans since coming to the Senate in 2006, and was a leading advocate for the VOW to Hire Heroes Act. Read more about McCaskill's work for veterans by clicking HERE.
