McCaskill Hosts Veterans Listening Forum in St. Louis
Senator visited with Missouris veterans to talk about access to education, benefits and ways to expand job opportunities
WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill held a Veterans Listening Forum yesterday in St. Louis, to hear from veterans firsthand about access to education, health benefits, and job opportunities.
McCaskill, a member of the Senate Veterans Jobs Caucus, led a discussion with veterans and veterans service organizations at Soldier's Memorial Military Museum. McCaskill took the opportunity to discuss recent legislation she is supporting to improve access to education under the Post-9/11 GI bill.

Recently, McCaskill teamed up with Senator Jim Webb (Va.) to introduce the Military Educational Assistance Improvements Act of 2012, which strengthens the Post-9/11 GI Bill by ensuring that educational institutions receiving assistance through the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense meet commonsense requirements, including providing critical information to potential students.
McCaskill also urged the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric Shinseki, to file a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the phrase 'GI Bill' in order to protect veterans from deceptive marketing by for-profit colleges and universities.
