MCCASKILL GRANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Oregon County receives over $22,000 in federal grant funding to purchase new law enforcement equipment

July 19, 2010

U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development's Community Facility Grant program will provide $22,500 in federal grant funding to Oregon County.

According to the USDA, Oregon County will receive a grant to purchase an emergency four-wheel drive vehicle for the Sheriff's Department in order to help better serve the community. Community Facility Grant funds may be used in the development, construction, or improvement of vital community facilities that improve the quality of life for rural residents.

McCaskill believes that federal grants and loans are a positive alternative to earmarks, which in the past have frequently had too little accountability. Competitive merit and need based federal grants and low-interest government loans bring federal assistance to Missouri in an honest and fiscally responsible manner.
